After years of maximalist press-on culture and extra-long stiletto nails dominating social media, 2025 has brought a meaningful correction. Clients are asking for nails that feel like them — wearable, interesting, and crafted rather than factory-made.
The two camps that dominated this year's trend reports are, interestingly, at opposite ends of the spectrum: Quiet Luxury nails on one side, and tactile, sculptural 3D art on the other. What they share is commitment to quality — both require skilled execution that separates them from anything you can buy in a kit at home.
What's Trending In: The Big Looks of 2025
Quiet Luxury Monochromes
Sheer nudes, warm taupes, soft pinks, and glazed milky whites on a natural or slightly extended square or soft-round nail. No art, no glitter — just flawlessly applied gel in a tone that looks like very expensive skin. The "Hailey Bieber glazed donut nail" aesthetic, but evolved. This is the fastest-growing request at Velvet Rose in 2025.
Chrome and Metallic Finish
Chrome powder applied over gel for a mirror-like, liquid-metal finish. Rose gold, silver, and this year's breakout: gold chrome over warm peach or nude gel. The effect is luxurious at any length and photographs beautifully. Duration is excellent — chrome doesn't chip the way glitter does.
Botanical and Floral Nail Art
Hand-painted micro florals — tiny blossoms, delicate leaves, scattered petals — on one or two accent nails over a quiet base colour. The key is restraint. One nail with a perfectly painted rose surrounded by four immaculate nudes is far more powerful than all five nails covered in art.
3D Sculptural Elements
Gel-sculpted butterflies, pearls, charms, and abstract shapes sit raised off the nail surface. Worn minimally — one or two accent nails — this is now considered elevated artistry rather than tacky excess. Execution matters enormously here. A poorly applied 3D element looks cheap; a well-executed one looks like jewellery.

What's Out in 2025
- Extra-long stiletto or coffin nails: Still worn, but declining sharply in requests. The maintenance requirement and day-to-day impracticality have caught up with the aesthetic.
- Glitter from edge to edge: Chunky full-coverage glitter is being replaced by subtle shimmer finishes or strategic glitter gradients on accent nails only.
- Overly uniform salon sets: All ten nails identically covered in the same dense art looks dated. The current preference is variation and wearability.
- Neon: Had its peak in 2022–2023. Still fun for summer, but no longer in the style conversation at premium salons.
What Actually Lasts (Both in Wear and Style)
The best nail looks invest in longevity both in terms of the trend staying power and the physical wear of the nail:
- Hard gel vs. gel polish: If you want your colour to last 3–4 weeks without chipping, hard gel over gel polish is the better foundation — especially for active clients.
- Neutral tones: A warm nude or a sheer pink will never look dated. Nail art trends cycle every 6 months; your nude won't.
